The large back crest and rear slit design are inspired by the jinbaori worn by Sengoku era warlords, Edo period firefighting coats, and Bussaki Haori. What these garments all share is the presence of a large back crest. Firefighters carried the pride of protecting their communities while displaying the emblem of their brigade, while warlords displayed their family crests as symbols of their convictions and resolve. Inspired by the way people of those eras wore their identity, purpose, and pride upon their backs, this design boldly expresses MISAMARU’s long held wish that every individual’s uniqueness be valued and respected through an embroidered version of our hand drawn crest design. To mark our 2nd anniversary, we chose to incorporate Japan’s historic back crest culture as a symbolic motif, representing our commitment to carrying these ideals forward.
