Half Kimono Features-

The English version is provided below the Japanese version.

There are currently three versions of our Half-Kimono: Men's, Women's, and Unisex.

Because the Half-Kimono is designed based on the traditional structure of Japanese kimono, the depth of the sleeve opening (the opening where the sleeve is attached to the body) differs between the Men's and Women's versions.

Men's Version

The Men's version has a shorter sleeve opening, resulting in a shorter hanging portion of the sleeve. This creates a cleaner, more understated silhouette inspired by traditional men's kimono. It is primarily designed to be worn at the hip.

Women's Version

The Women's version features a longer sleeve opening, creating a longer hanging portion of the sleeve. As you walk, the sleeves sway more gracefully, giving the garment a softer and more elegant appearance.

It can be worn just below the bust, at the waist, or at the hips, allowing for a much wider variety of styling options than the Men's version.

About the Development of the Unisex Half-Kimono

At MISAMARU, we believe that everyone should be free to enjoy kimono, regardless of age, gender, nationality, or personal style. With this philosophy in mind, we created the Unisex Half-Kimono.

In traditional Japanese kimono, the construction of the sleeve opening (where the sleeve is attached to the body) differs between men's and women's garments. Rather than designing our Half-Kimono around gender, we designed it around how you want to wear and style it.

For this reason, every size of the Unisex Half-Kimono uses a sleeve-opening design that is the same as, or very close to, that of a traditional women's kimono.

This design offers greater styling freedom for everyone.

For taller women, there is no longer a need to choose the Men's version simply because they need a longer garment or sleeve length. They can choose a larger size while still enjoying the Women's-style sleeve construction, making it easy to wear the kimono with an obi belt or hakama skirt positioned just below the bust or at the waist.

For men, the longer sleeve opening also makes it possible to explore styling that is difficult with traditional men's kimono, such as wearing an obi higher on the torso or pairing the Half-Kimono with a hakama skirt for a more fashion-forward silhouette.

At MISAMARU, we want every individual to choose the style that best expresses who they are—not the one dictated by gender. The Unisex Half-Kimono was created to offer a new and more flexible way to enjoy traditional Japanese clothing.
